A Home of Their Own

The past year was filled with challenges for many, Adriana Lucia was no exception. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly, doing everything in her power to provide for her son Dilan and give him a better life. Dilan, 5 years old, struggles with extreme asthma and rhinitis, which requires expensive medicine that they often couldn’t afford. Without a place of their own, they moved around, staying with family members when they could.

Adriana applied for a Home of Hope in March of 2020 and settled in to wait for the call that they had been selected to receive a home. While friends and family discouraged her by saying it was never going to happen, she held on to hope, praying, and believing that God would help them. In the meantime, they lived in a mobile home that was lent to them. The conditions of the mobile home made Dilan’s asthma worse, as dust would settle in through the holes in the structure and rain would leak in making everything damp. Still, they settled in and waited for their miracle.

In May of 2021, Adriana’s hope was realized as she got the call that they would finally be receiving a Home of Hope. We trust that with a clean floor, and a secure and dry structure, Dilan’s health will improve and we are excited to see how the trajectory of their lives is changed. During the dedication, she shared, “ I almost lost hope, but now I realize that God listens to me and is attentive to my prayers. ’’

Adriana and Dilan finally have a home of their own.
