Here’s the scoop – our discipleship training school is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that lasts 5 months. While your DTS experience will change the rest of your life, it won’t “fill” your entire gap year. What Does A YWAM Gap Year Look Like?
There’s never been a more perfect time to take a gap year and go on an incredible adventure with Jesus. YWAM San Diego/Baja offers a one-of-a-kind gap year adventure for anyone 18 years old or older who has a desire to know God and make Him known!
Join us in Baja, Mexico this year for our 10-month-long Gap Year Discipleship Program. Take part in a fresh new season of knowing God, developing lifelong friendships, and learning how to share the Love of Christ wherever He takes you. Experience powerful Spirit-filled teaching, training, and discipleship from September to June.
You will live and learn alongside fellow believers while completing our Discipleship Training School, Mission Adventures Internship, and Discipleship Bible School, all while earning a total of 32 credits with the University of Nations.
During a YWAM gap year, you will discover God’s unending love for you while studying His Word, deepen your worship, and learn how to take His good news to the nations. Taking a Christian gap year for discipleship and missions will change your life for the better and help you shape your future with Christ.

The Starting Line – Our Discipleship Training School
September - February
YWAM San Diego/Baja’s DTS is the first 5 months of your Christian gap year experience. A missions training adventure like no other, DTS is broken into a campus phase in Baja, Mexico, and an overseas outreach phase. Designed to help you grow in a safe place with others to know God at a deeper level and learn how to be a powerful witness to make God known in a relevant way to others, our DTS offers elective courses focused to choose from to cultivate your unique passions for Jesus.
Our DTS electives include:
In the campus phase, you’ll spend 3 months in Baja, in dormitory-style living at one of our two beautiful, oceanside campuses: Ensenada or San Antonio Del Mar. Here, you’ll participate in daily worship, your chosen elective course, and group missions training. Then, you’ll have a chance to put your new missional mindset to work with a 2-month mission trip to an overseas destination.
Spring Mission Adventures (MA) Internship
March
After our DTS concludes, you’ll have a 2-week break to rest, visit, family, and reflect on your new relationship with God. Then, in March, take your missions experience in a new direction with our spring Mission Adventures (MA) Internship.
You will serve as staff of our Mission Adventures (MA) program, which hosts high school youth from all over the world, and gives them a taste of missions. During the internship, you will help facilitate the MA program, lead local outreaches, and disciple the youth. Our campus staff will be there with you all the way as you take critical first steps as a servant leader of others!
Discipleship Bible School
April - June
Finish your Christian gap year by taking your training back to the basics with our Discipleship Bible School. DBS is a truly remarkable, 3-month course that has been specifically crafted to pastorally teach and mentor you through every book of the Bible.
Our vision for DBS is to help you grow in a greater revelation and a deeper understanding of the faithful, matchless nature and character of God. The DBS is structured in a safe group setting with conversational teaching/learning, guided discussions, and lots of responsive worship to all that you will be learning from the Word.

All costs include local travel, meals, lodging, training materials, tuition, and elective courses.
DTS Campus Phase: $3,490
DTS Outreach Phase: $2,000-$2,500 (differs per destination - price does not include airfare)
MA Internship: $500
